Position: Lecturer, PSOE (Potential for Security of Employment)

The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine, seeks to fill a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE) position beginning July 1, 2013. The PhD is required at the time of appointment.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, lecturing, and mentoring across the subfields of anthropology, with an emphasis on sociocultural anthropology.  The expected teaching load will be from 7 to 9 courses per year, on a quarter system, depending upon other service obligations.  Lecturers PSOE are members of the University of California Academic Senate with associated benefits, including eligibility for UCI’s attractive faculty housing programs, as well as medical and retirement benefits.  Similar to Assistant Professors, Lecturers PSOE are evaluated for regular merit salary increases and eventually for promotion to Lecturer with Security of Employment, which has the permanence of a tenured position.

Position: Professor, Tenure Track

The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for one tenure-track position in sociocultural anthropology beginning July 1, 2013. This position will be at a higher level assistant or early associate level.

Requirements -The PhD is required. We welcome applicants with a strong record of ethnographic fieldwork and theoretical innovation in one (or ideally two) of the following areas: 1) environment, science, and technology; 2) language and culture; 3) urban studies; and 4) feminist theory. Geographic area of expertise is open, but candidates with a research focus in Latin America are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, as well as to incorporating critical attention to gender, race, religion and class in their research and teaching.
